Robert Smith:

Robert was born on April 21'st 1959 in Blackpool, England. That makes him 38 today. He met his wife, Mary, at a Halloween Party where he was dressed as a doctor. He was at the age of 14 .. and they married 14 years later. They both decided to have no children.

The Cure: When The band first started they were called Easy Cure. They later decided to Become The Cure. Their first album "Three Imaginary Boys" came out in 1979.

Before that they started writing songs and, on December 18 1976, they played their first gig at a place in Susses called Worth Abbey. Their name at the time was Malice. But to get the gig they had to pretend they were a folk band. It was an acoustic set, they sat on the floor and played bongos.

Robert's parent's had an annexe on their house and they practiced there three or four times a week. Robert wouldcome in with some guitar chords, and Micheal Dempsy would find a bassline, Lol would sort out the drums and the two of them would write out words. They decided they needed another name if they were going to start playing again, so one night in the middle of January 1977, they sat around in the kitchen discussing it. One of their songs was called "Easy Cure" a song written by Lol, and, eventully, in desperation they settled on it.

Between July and September, Easy Cure continued to play locally, building up a following at The Rocket and Lakeside, but, on September 12th Peter O' Toole quit (The lead singer at the time)

Robert:

"He went off to a Kibbutz in Isreal and, as I'd sung 'Foxy Lady' at the Peace concert, and we'd already had four useless frontmen, I thought I couldn't be any worse so I decided to be the singer."

Changing names:

Robert: "I had always thought Easy Cure was a bit hippyish, a bit American-sounding, a bit West Coast, and I hated it, which put Lol's back up as he'd thought of it. Every other group we liked had 'The' in front of their name but The Easy Cure sounded stupid do we just changed it to The Cure instead. It upset a few old fans but...well, there you are..I thought The Cure sounded much more it."

Well there was a little bit of history for you. Today their New Line up is:

Robert Smith-Guitar/Vocals
Simon Gallup-Bass Guitar
Perry Bamonte-Guitar/Keyboards
Jason Cooper-Drums/Percussion

This was their line up for their album "Wild Mood Swings" which came out May 7, 1997. I would have to say I prefer their older stuff alot more.. My favorite albums are Pornagraphy, Faith, and Japanese Whispers. And MY favortie song would definatly be "Charolette Sometimes" (of the album Starring into The Sea) Then again I love "A Forest".
